Thank you a million\u00a0times! My heart was broken and so was his. He’s already sleeping and trying to crunch his beak. He’s exhausted. He’s going to get checked out wt his vet tomorrow along with a wing clip which was to happen today if he hadn’t escaped.

I’m so happy for all you did for my little Geenbird, he’s exhausted and was very thirsty. He’s in bed now, tomorrow he’ll be going to his vet for a complete check-up and a wing clip. I now believe in miracles. Thank you so very much. I’ll be sending a donation for this tomorrow.<\/p>\n

Then please don\u2019t punish him by having his flight feathers trimmed. A bird is meant to fly. If he got out, it is because his environment was not secured enough, you need to reinforce the security. With flight feathers trimmed, if he gets out, he has no way of surviving.<\/p>\n

I see your are considering to have your beloved bird\u2019s feathers trimmed.\u00a0 For a personal point of view, I have a peach fronted conure that had his feathers trimmed before I adopted him. Even with less feathers, he was flying very easily, but his fly wasn\u2019t controlled perfectly. He had a few minor accidents flying inside by hitting furniture. Since his feathers came back, he is amazingly agile. I made his environment more safe.<\/p>\n

There is many ways to secure their environment. I personally use a magnetic mesh patio door screen, in addition to my light drapery.\u00a0 Vigilance is the best way to avoid their lost.\u00a0 One third of the lost birds had their flying feathers trimmed\u2026.they were soaring with the wind. Since their flying abilities were compromised, they didn\u2019t have the power to escape from predators.<\/p>\n

I urge you to reconsider getting his feathers trimmed. Have a chat with your avian veterinarian about it also, to make the best decision for your bird and yourself.<\/p>\n

Hi Elise,<\/p>\n

I spoke with my vet yesterday when I was there with Geenbird. We didn’t clip his wings. I didn’t like the idea but I was still in trauma mode after losing him and thought it would keep him safe.<\/p>\n

He got a complete check-up, blood tests and all. With the exception of a bit of dehydration, and he lost 25g. He weighed 160g the week before when I weighed him other than those 2 things, he’s in top shape. My little warrior is very tired though, the vet said he will sleep a lot for the next couple of days which is totally understandable.<\/p>\n

I purchased a magnetic screen for my patio door. It’s the only door he had access to. The windows all have screens.<\/p>\n
