Adoptions

At Perroquetsecours, we take very seriously our responsibility towards birds put up for adoption. We must ensure that they are treated as a member of the family, respecting their nature as birds and we consider that the homes to which they are sent to must be adapted to their individual needs. We must do everything we can to find them an environment where they can flourish for many years. We will make a selection of the best possible family from all the forms received according to the uniqueness and needs of each bird.

All birds found unclaimed must necessarily find a new family, after remaining 2 months in host families, time necessary for us to search for the owners and thereby study their behavior, preferences and needs. Some of our birds for adoption are cases of abandonment due to death, aging, illness of their owners or others. Some of our birds for adoption are cases of mistreatment, taken care of by our organization, in order to give them a chance at a better life and who often stay for a long time in foster families, with the aim of rehabilitating them before possible adoption . Some birds are given to us by partner organizations in our cause and others come from owners who use our placement service, in order to find a new family for their birds, for reasons that we do not judge and which are specific to them.

To be able to adopt a bird through our organization, you must complete 3 steps:

The first step being the exhaustive adoption request form located further down on this page, but which allows us to target the right adopter for each bird.

The second step is a phone call from one of our adoption assistants, who will call you to discuss further about your expectations and needs.

The third step being the visit to your home, either virtual or in person, this essentially to ensure that the bird will go to a safe environment for him, to prevent any fraudulent attempt or to acquire birds with the aim of breeding them.

You must have completed these 3 steps for your application to be considered. We keep all forms received for future adoptions on file for a period of one year. All information contained therein is strictly confidential. All our unsuccessful attempts to contact you for an adoption, whether by telephone, email or text message, will automatically send your file to oblivion.

No birds are entrusted to anyone under the age of 18 or to anyone who wishes to breed them. It is important to understand that we are not a shelter and that you cannot go see birds that are either in foster care or with their owner, unless you have gone through all the steps of our selection process. We are located in Canada and do not ship birds overseas.
